Introduction To Homeopathy

Homeopathy introduction

Homeopathy is a system of (health) medicine introduced by a German physician Dr Samuel Hahnemann. He was basically an allopathic doctor who has left the practice because of side effects and temporary relief of symptoms of allopathy.

For his bread and butter he started translating the medical books to different languages. While he was translating cullen's materia medica he came across a herbal medicine called cinchona.

It was written that cinchona can cure malaria and it can also produce symptoms similar to malaria on healthy individuals. This point clicked hahnemann's brain and he prepared an extract of cinchona bark and taken himself. To his surprise he developed some symptoms of malaria like chills and aching. He started doing the same experiment on different individuals and the result was the same, which is applicable in health circle.

By this experiment hahnemann came to know that any drug which can produce a set of symptoms on a health human being can be used to cure the similar symptoms in a diseased person. He gave cinchona to various malaria patients and the result was wonderful and a system called homeopathy originated. The word homoeo means similar, pathy means suffering.

The basic principle of homeopathy is 'similia similibus curantur' means like cures cure. Hahnemann prepared some other drugs using alcohol as a vehicle and started experimenting on different age groups and noted down the symptoms produced in them. He proved nearly 30 drugs and the symptoms produced were noted down systematically. The symptoms collected by drug proving were categorized in the order in a book form named materia medica pura.

Hahnemann noticed that by diluting the crude drug substances in spirit a dynamic power is developed and is responsible for producing the symptoms on healthy people. Hahnemann started giving treatment to so many diseased persons with the medicines prepared by him on applying the principle similia similibus curantur and got wonderful cures and homeopathy started spreading all over the world.

He gave medicines to some patients and noticed that symptoms are coming back again. So he understood that the cause for the disease should be treated .

After doing experiments and observations he came to know that diseases are actually caused by some dynamic forces and he named them as miasms.[psora ,syphilis, sycosis] He noticed that to cure a person completely these miasms should be eradicated using a similar dynamic force. This idea lead to anti-miasmatic drugs which are drugs having disease producing power similar to miasms. He developed anti miasmatic drugs and experimented on diseased persons and got wonderful cures.

Developement of homeopathy The principles of homoeopathy was written in book form and he named it organon of medicine. Later-on he started publishing these works and six editions of organon were published. Right from the beginning of homeopathy so many doctors of other system started working against homeopathy. But those who were against homeopathy later on came to know the truth behind homeopathy and started practicing the same. Physicians like Dr J T Kent, Dr Hering,Dr Boenninghausen etc followed Dr Hahnemann's mission and developed the system.

They all started preparing many other drugs on the basis of guidelines given by Hahnemann. Physicians came to know that by diluting the drug substance in spirit in a systematic way the medicinal power is increasing even though the quantity of drug decreases. Since diseases are due to dynamic causes the medicine also should be dynamic. By a process called potentisation same drug in different levels of potencies were made. They found that by increasing the potency the penetrating power of medicine is increased so that it act on a higher level than the usual material form of drugs used in other systems. This unique nature of homeopathic medicine is the reason for the wonderful cures of even the mental diseases.

General principles Homeopathy treats the diseased individual as a whole rather than treating diseased parts or organs. The physical, mental, emotional, social spheres of a person is considered for a permanent cure. This system believes that the diseases are caused due to the derangement of vital force which is an invisible power in every individual. In a healthy state the vital force maintains the equilibrium of mind body and soul .

During this man will have normal sensations and functions. When the vital force gets affected there will be external manifestations in the form of signs and symptoms. The imbalance in the body functions makes a shelter for foreign organisms(bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa etc) and allow them to proliferate &produce so called diseases.

Homeopathy believes that the real disease comes before the bacteria & viruses, hence the root cause of the disease has to be treated for a permanent cure. The anti-bacterial and ant-iviral agents only remove the secondary causes mentioned above.

Diseases are produced by noxious morbific agents called Miasms which are dynamic influences which affect the vital force. There are mainly three miasms PSORA ,SYPHILIS&SYCOSIS. These three causes are accepted by other schools of medicine but called by different names. Psora causes functional disturbances, syphilis causes structural changes in the form of destructions and sycosis causes changes in the form of overgrowth. These three miasms can act individually or in combined form to produce different disease conditions.

Preparation of medicine in homoeopathy In homoeopathy medicines are prepared from different sources like minerals, plants, animals, toxins, diseased parts ect. Medicines are prepared from these substances by a special process called potentisation.

Here the soluble substances are potentised by diluting(mixing with spirit with a downward stroke) with spirit and insoluble substances by grinding(trituration) with sugar of milk. The crude drug substance is first mixed with a calculated quantity of spirit and water and kept for few days .From this mixture extract is taken and is called mother tincture(denoted as Q).

From this mother tincture dilutions are prepared by potentisation. Potentisation is a mathematical process by which the quantity of original drug substance reduces but medicinal power increases. Depending upon the ratio of quantity of drug substance and vehicle(spirit or sugar of milk) there are different scales for this process. Each scale has got different potencies which indicate power of medicine.

Example in decimal scale the drug substance vehicle ratio is1/10 and the available potencies are 3x,6x.12x etc. In centismal scale the ratio is 1/100 and the available potencies are 30c,200c etc,in LM potency the ratio is 1/50000 and the available potencies are 0/1,0/2,0/3 etc. Potency is written after the name of every medicine Same medicine is available in different potencies. Suitable potency is selected according to so many factors like severity, depth of disease, condition of the patient ,nature of disease ,type of symptoms, age of patient and etc.

Subjects studied in homeopathy:- History of medicine History & development of homeopathy Pioneers of homeopathy Organon of medicine Homeopathic philosophy Materia medica Homeopathic pharmacy & pharmacognosy Homeopathic repertory Homeopathic case taking Homeopathic therapeutics General medical subjects:  Anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, parasitology, toxicology, forensic medicine, social & preventive medicine, surgery ,ENT ,gynecology & obstetrics, opthalmology, dentistry, orthopedics, surgery, general medicine, pediatrics, dermatology ,psychiatry and etc

Homeopathic case taking and prescription. Cure by a homeopathic medicine is rapid ,gentle and permanent if correct remedy in suitable dose is given. . Just giving one drug for one disease (specific drugs)may not give good result. To come to a correct remedial diagnosis we should have the symptomatology of the person .It is the total symptoms of a person which includes mental generals, physical generals, particular symptoms etc. All signs and symptoms (mental&physical)of the person is taken in detail. Knowledge about past illness, family history of diseases, food & bowel habits, notable causes, relation to climatic changes and constitution etc are noted down in a systematic order.

Mental symptoms: Example: fear, anxiety, depression, anger, jealousy and etc....

Physical symptoms: Example: Body makeup, appetite, thirst, desires, aversions, bowels, urination, sleep, taste, nature of smell, discharges any abnormal sensations like pain, burning, climatic changes, thermal relations, and etc...

Peculiar uncommon symptoms: This is the specialty of homeopathic system of medicine. For the selection of a suitable remedy these symptoms are very important symptoms which are seen almost in all patients are least important. This is the reason for giving different medicines to different individuals suffering from same disease. Example: Five people suffering from typhoid may get five different remedies because of changes of individual symptoms. Health tips regarding signs&symptoms: This include signs & symptoms related to body parts &organs. Example: Part affected, any swelling, discoloration etc.

Systemic examination:- Different systems are examined in a systematic order.(Respiratory system ,digestive system, nervous system, cardio vascular system and etc....) Vital signs like Pulse, blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate etc are checked here.

General physical examination: Here body parts are examined from head to foot to find out any changes. provisional disease diagnosis; Here probable diseases are diagnosed. In homeopathy disease diagnosis is not that much important for the selection of a remedy, but needed for general management and to know the prognosis. Investigations : This includes lab investigations and other methods to find out any other major illnesses.

Final disease diagnosis: After doing all investigations the disease is diagnosed.

Remedial diagnosis: This is the most important part as far as homeopathy is concerned. For this the selected symptoms are arranged in a systematic order on the basis of importance. Symptoms are analyzed to find out the importance of each symptom for the selection of a remedy. Remedies are selected on the basis of similarity. Suitable remedies are diagnosed by a process called repertorisation. Here books called repertories are used. Repertory is the index of symptoms of materia medica(books which contain the symptoms of drugs).Nowadays computer softwares are used for repertorisalion.By this process we will get the remedies covering maximum important symptom of the patient. Among this group of remedies the most suitable remedy is selected by referring various books and considering the life space investigation of the patient..The selected medicine is given in suitable potency & dose.

ANTI MIASMATIC TREATMENT: The root cause of disease is miasms which should be eradicated using suitable anti miasmatic drugs. Every drug can eradicate the miasm if there is symptom similarity. There are anti-psoric drugs,anti-syphilitic drugs and anti-sycotic drugs. After diagnosing the miasm suitable anti miasmatic drug has to be given to complete the cure.

Curing Meniere's Disease (Tinnitus) With Homeopathy

Curing Meniere's Disease Tinnitus Homeopathy

Meniere’s disease treatment is most successfully tackled by focussing on your immune system. With a healthy immunity, no disease can occur and existing diseases fade away. This is what homeopathy does.

What exactly is Meniere’s disease, also known as Meniere’s syndrome?

Basically, it is a disorder of the labyrinth of the inner ear. Symptoms may include tinnitus, a heightened sensitivity to loud noises, a gradual loss of hearing, headache and vertigo. Nausea and vomiting may occur in the acute stage, often accompanied by dizziness, profuse sweating and nystagmus (rapid and involuntary movement of the eyes).

Homeopathy is a natural and complete system of health care. It works by quickly raising your immune system quickly, so that now you can cure yourself. You can learn to use some common homeopathic medicines at home, or you can rely on the expertise of a professional homeopath. I like both options as this allows for more flexibility. You can’t know as much as they do, but they aren’t generally available 24/7.

If you have had Meniere’s disease for some time and have received various treatments, then I suggest it is too complicated for a homeopathic home prescriber. Successful treatment may take time, with progress quite slow at times. A professional homeopath is best able to prescribe an accurate medicine and monitor your progress.

However, if it has only just started, then you may be able to resolve it yourself, with a little homeopathic home prescribing. One of the common home prescribing medicines is Silica. Silica is just as useful to the practitioner, as it can resolve many deep and chronic conditions.

Silica has strong ear symptoms, so can resolve the same. Ear infections, loss of balance especially when there is a loss of hearing. Silica is probably one of the best Meniere’s disease treatments, when caught in the early stages. Other medicines may be more appropriate for established Meniere’s disease sufferers.

New Insidious Attack On Homeopathy: "Homeopathy Is Placebo, The Consultation Process Heals"

Dr. Sarah Brien, a senior research fellow in complementary medicine in the UK, was quoted on Science Daily online as saying that homeopathic consultations benefit rheumatoid arthritis patients. But it is the consultation that does it, and not the homeopathic remedies, she says.
Source

homeopathy criticised debunkedThe attacks on homeopathy never ceases to amaze me. When labeling it as witchcraft, quackery and what not did not work, opponents of homeopathy have come up with new insidious ways of belittling homeopathy.

It seems new research in England has revealed that homeopathy medicine itself nothing but placebo. Arthritis patients benefit from homeopathy because the unique homeopathic consultation process is the one that helps the patient.

I have never seen bigger blatant lies in my life.

I would suggest to Dr. Sarah Brien to read up the most basic of homeopathic repertory and materia medica first. Then she could say whatever she wants to say.

I will talk about myself. If all homeopathic medicines are placebo, then why do I feel differently when I take Arsenic Album 30 (A homeopathy drug) and Natrum Mur 200 (another homeopathic drug)? If all drugs are placebo I should have felt similar effects on taking taking the two drugs.

On taking Arsenic Album why did I feel a burning sensation, restlessness and feeling that I was going to die? On taking Natrum Mur I felt despondent and felt a desire to consume more salt. Why?

Because the different effects of the two different drugs were laid down in materia medica written more than 150 years ago by a German chemist called Samuel Hahnemann, a Dutch German called Count von Boenninghausen and an American called Hering. These are called provings. The drug is given to healthy persons and the effect on the person is recorded carefully. This is the homeopathic materia medica.

I wonder if Dr. Sarah Brien even knows what is the Homeopathic materia medica.

My advice to those who publish all sort of gibberish about homeopathy is; study it well first. Then comment on it. It is difficult to learn but not impossible for a reasonably intelligent person. Read the materia medicas, repertories. Read the books by Hahnemann, Boeninghausen, Hering, John Clarke, Margaret Tyler, Sankaran, Kent, Boger and then dare to say anything about homeopathy.

Homeopathy is difficult to learn and practice but it gives marvellous results. The suffering humanity deserves to receive all the healing it can get. Please do not belittle homeopathy. Understand it first. It is not like other systems of medicine. It has its own laws. Respect them. That is what democracy is all about.

Homeopathy Helps During Pregnancy

Sepia is one of the two (the other being Pulsatilla) of the most well-known “women’s remedies”. It has much applicability in the realms of menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and menopause. When used in a person who resonates with the Sepia state, it can relieve many of the symptoms of pregnancy and birth, while increasing the overall sense of well-being. To describe the Sepia state, I’ll create a picture of a woman who carries many of the Sepia characteristics.

Imagine a woman who has had several children in a short amount of time (we’ve all heard of the grandmother who had five children in five years). She is constantly at work, doing dishes, laundry, cooking, cleaning, and tending to her little ones. Over time, this mother who was once responsive to each little cry or need has become more and more dull. Her sallow face sags, the expression changing less and less as her feelings of overwhelm deepen. Everything about her seems to sag- her face, her skin, even her internal organs. As she’s working one day on the unending stream of housework, a child comes to her, crying and clinging to her skirt. Full of irritation and depression, she snaps at her child so sarcastically that the little one runs away, crying. In the moment, the mother feels nothing, but later that day, she lies alone in her room, crying from guilt. She feels that she doesn’t love her husband or her children, but she knows she should, and she feels hopeless.

Sepia is made from the ink of the cuttlefish, and like the cuttlefish, she is very responsive in her healthy state. However, if she becomes overwhelmed, she retreats into unresponsiveness, depression, and sarcasm. She feels better with vigorous exercise such as a brisk walk or some energetic dancing. She wants to be left alone, and she cries when she tells others about her troubles. Everything about her sags. Here are some of her more specific symptoms:

Nausea: At the thought or smell of food.

Face: Yellow. Brown “saddle” across nose and under eyes.

Headache: With nausea and vomiting. Worse with the smell of food. Better after meals. Stinging pain.

Food: Craves chocolate and vinegar. Dislikes milk, and it makes her sick.

Genitalia: Uterine or cervical prolapse. Feels her organs are sagging out of her vulva. Pelvic weakness.

Temperature: She tends to be chilly. Sometimes experiences flushes of heat.

Sepia in 30 or 6c can be helpful for morning sickness, if the woman has some of the characteristics of the Sepia state. It can also help rouse a woman out of postpartum depression. Consult a homeopath if you have chronic symptoms for which you think Sepia might be helpful.

Canine Homeopathy: It Can Cure Your Pet Dog

homeopathy dogs pet

Homeopathy is a form of natural healing which has long since been used to treat many different health conditions. The basic premise of homeopathy is that "like cures like." In recent years, homeopathic remedies have also been used to treat dogs.

Homeopathic remedies may be administered to dogs by either dropping the pellets in the mouth, dissolving the remedy in distilled water or grinding them down and mixing with milk. These treatments are prescribed by a specialist, known as a homeopathic veterinarian. In The Everything Natural Health For Dogs Book, Gewirtz & Nuccio (2009) highlight ten basic homeopathic remedies, including the following:

* Aconitum napellus - shock, fever, excessive fear, panic, canine distemper, infections
* Apis mellifica - allergic reactions to bee stings, inflammation, fluid retention
* Arnica montana - strains, fractures
* Belladonna - fevers, ear infections, heat stroke
* Calendula - heals wounds/cuts
* Camomilla (chamomile) - soothes oral pain
* Nux vomica - over-stimulation of nervous system
* Mercurius solubilis - gingivitis, diarrhoea
* Rhus toxicodendron - itching, rashes, hives
* Sulphur - mange, allergic reactions, diarrhoea

Homeopathy for Dogs with Kidney Problems

The kidneys are necessary for getting rid of waste from the blood and are found in front of the dog's rear legs, near the spinal column. Kidney failure is believed to affect around 25% of dogs and may be acute or chronic. In addition to mainstream treatments, there are several homeopathic remedies which may help dogs suffering from kidney-related problems, such as urinary tract infections. Gewirtz & Nuccio (2009) identify key homeopathic remedies, to include a follows:

* Aconite - helps dogs straining to urinate
* Arsenicum - aids dogs suffering from incontinence
* Belladonna - helps dogs with sudden straining/incontinence
* Berberis - relieves painful urination in dogs
* Equistem - helps puppies experiencing pain urinating

How Homeopathy Helps Dogs with Arthritis

Many dogs go on to develop arthritis in their senior years, thankfully there are a range of different treatments which can help, such as massage, applying heat to the effected areas and homeopathic remedies. A homeopathic veterinarian may recommend several homeopathy treatment, including Silicea, Belladonna and Eupatorium. In addition, there are three main homeopathic remedies used to treat acute arthritic attacks, which according to Gewirtz & Nuccio involve taking Phytolacca, Rhododendron and Agaricus.
Homeopathic Remedies for Seizures in Dogs

Homeopathy has been recognized as beneficial for dogs suffering from nervous system conditions, including seizures. In addition to making dietary changes and using nutritional supplements, there are three key homeopathic remedies which may be used for seizures. According to Gewirtz & Nuccio, Belladonna and Silicea are identified as effective in reducing seizures, while Arnica Montana can help dogs suffering from seizures following a head injury.

If you are interested in learning more about homeopathic remedies or alternative treatments for dogs, get in touch with your vet and he or she should be able to refer your pet to a specialist, if appropriate. It is important to always follow instructions and seek expert advice before treating health conditions.

Uterine Fibroids Cured By Homoeopathy

uterine fibroids homeopathy cure

Uterine fibroids is a disease which people think can only be cured by the help of heavy medications accompanying numerous side affects or with the help of a surgical operation which has high risks associated with it. When digging deep into the alternative ways to cure uterine fibroids one will certainly come across homeopathic way to get rid of them. In most of the cases, homeopathy treatments for uterine fibroids have proved itself as a boon. Have a glance at some of the ways homeopathy offers you to liberate from uterine fibroids.

If one feels that the option of surgery or allopathic is better than homeopathy then probably here one is wrong. Surgery is a painful and risky way of removing uterine fibroids which can never work on the reoccurrence of these fibroids in future. Homeopathy is the safe, economical and side affect free way of getting rid of uterine fibroids. Not only does homeopathy removes the uterine fibroids without any risk but also stops them from reoccurrence. As after getting rid of uterine fibroids through homeopathy, the doctor prescribes a follow up course which stops the unwanted growth in the uterine area.

Homeopathy treatment in India also proved successful in melting away of uterine fibroids: Another safe way of getting rid from uterine fibroids in homeopathy is through melting the fibroids within. Through the help of homeopathy and energy healing one can melt these fibroids within and let them pass away through the urine track. Such a miracle is still not possible if you are going with allopathic treatments.

Indian homeopaths with medication can cut the uterine fibroids: Homeopathy treats the uterine fibroids in a non invasive manner. The remedy homeopathy has to treat uterine fibroids is Silicae which behaves as a homeopathical scalpel. On the other hand another remedy for the same is Myrristica Sebifera. This in simpler terms is known as the homeopathical knife. The person suffering from fibroids is supposed to take both of these potions together which results in separation of the uterine fibroids from the uterus wall and then these tumors simply fall off.

In homeopathy we have a remedy to export out the uterine fibroids present within. There are prescriptions in homeopathy which are helpful in letting the uterine fibroids export. Homeopaths according to individual reading, prescribe doses of Hepar Sulphuris Calcarea which is meant to catalyze the uterine fibroids growth. This prescription is combined with Myrristica and Silicae which works on exporting out the unwanted tissues.

So, don’t you feel that homeopathy is far better option to get rid of uterine fibroids than any other treatments? With homeopathy you’ll not only economically, but also without any cuts, blood, scars, wounds and anesthesia, you’ll be able to get relieved from the uterine fibroids. After deciding to go with homeopathy treatments all one needs to do is have patience.

In my personal experience I have found that Aurum Muriaticum Natronatum to be the best homeopathic remedy for uterine fibroids. This medicine works well in all patients suffering this ailment. No case taking or personalisation is necessary. Aur-Mur-Nat cures all cases of uterine fibroids even if they have turned malignant. It can be taken in 6C potency twice a day.

Curing Adoption Trauma With Homeopathy

Curing Adoption Trauma Homeopathy

Adults may see adoption as a blessing, but for the children it is often a deep wound. When we see young children in our practices that have been adopted, those who are acting out, or are unusually withdrawn, one thing to consider is what they felt in-vitro. Were they feeling the stress of an unwanted pregnancy? Was there talk between the parents of terminating the pregnancy? When prescribing for these children consideration should be given to the in-vitro effects of being unwanted, or even having their existence threatened.

When I first saw Valerie, she was a 15-month-old toddler. In the first 4 months after her birth, Valerie screamed nine hours a day, even while nursing. She was red-faced, hot-tempered and screaming with the veins in her neck protruding. At 15 months, she still needed swaddling at night in order to sleep. She would get screaming fits and break out in hives if left with a sitter, or on occasion if her mother put her down for a few minutes. Although she wasn’t an adopted child, her parents considered abortion in the early months of the pregnancy. The mother said that it seemed like her baby never felt safe, even though she and her husband now really loved the child and spent hours each day holding her. Her story suggests the powerful effect of the parent’s thoughts on the unborn child.

Adopted children have experienced the condition of being unwanted before they were born; often abortion was a real consideration. In addition, they may have experienced the loss of the mutual and deeply satisfying mother-infant bond. This experience can affect them in more than one-way, for instance:

• They are grieving the loss of their birthmother. The adoption is normally a joyful event for the adoptive parents who long for a child. And here is a child who is unwanted by its natural parents. So, it seems a great blessing that the two of them have come together, the parents who want a child and the child who needs parents. But for the child, separation from the birthmother feels like the loss of her whole world. In the child’s reality, she is grieving that loss, and she has no idea who these strangers are, or why she’s in this new place.

• These children are emotionally vulnerable. Sometimes the vulnerability is easy to see, but often it’s hidden. Adopted children frequently hide depression, their confusion about identity, anger, and fear of further loss.

My own adopted son seemed sad and lost his first week in our home, but then seemed to be a normal, happy baby and toddler. I noticed that when he was sick, or under stress, he would react by shrugging his shoulders, as if to say nothing could get to him. But he seemed so happy overall that my momentary qualms about his emotional indifference faded into the background.

When he turned 12, practically overnight, he became surly and uncooperative and started having behavior problems in school. When his troubles escalated from school problems to legal problems, we realized that this was something more than normal teenage rebellion.

• Adoptive children are angry. The child is angry with the birthmother for abandoning her. But the birthmother is often an unknown, mysterious person, so the child redirects her anger at others, often at the adoptive mother. This anger can be seen in the temper tantrums of young children, or the acting out of adolescence. The child can also feel guilty about the anger and suppress it. This can lead to alternating cycles of good behavior punctuated by angry outbursts.

• Adopted children defend themselves against further loss by shutting out others, attempting to avoid the pain of yet another abandonment. Keeping others at arms length leads to a deeper depression. During this depression, the child may act out by stealing, lying, setting fires, fighting, using drugs, or running away. Another defense the child may use is to become the ‘perfect child’ so there will be no reason for abandonment by the adoptive parents. This child puts a lot of effort into understanding what others want from her and complying with the wishes of those around her. The adoption experience can have life-long effects on the person. Nancy Verrier, author of the groundbreaking book The Primal Wound says, “According to 1985 statistics used by Parenting Resources of Santa Ana, California, although adoptees comprised 2-3 percent of the population of the country, they represented 30-40 percent of individuals found in residential treatment centers, juvenile hall, and special schools.” Luc de Schepper, a San Diego homeopath, finds that his most difficult ADD cases are adopted children.

My personal experience reflects Verrier’s findings. When my son and his brother were teens, I was a member of Toughlove, a support group for parents of children with behavior problems. In our local group, we consistently found that 40% or more of our members were adoptive parents.

For more on the challenges adopted children and their families face, I recommend the book Twenty Things Kids Wish Their Adoptive Parents Knew, by Sherrie Eldridge.

Remedies

Anacardium – Adoption is a split, both emotionally and genetically. The child is split from the original family and identity and graphed onto a new family and identity. The Anacardium child has a divided will, not sure if they are a devil or an angel. The Anacardium state can be caused by isolation and separation at birth, or after, leading to an extreme lack of confidence and a feeling of powerlessness. To compensate for this feeling, the person becomes aggressive and cruel. A keynote of the Anacardium state is a cold, hardhearted stare, which can be quite disconcerting to parents. The child’s behavior may appear very normal except in their drawings, which may have violent themes, and they may be attracted to playing with matches. The child’s dreams may also be violent, but they will rarely share their dreams with others.

Gallic acid – The Gallic acid state can be caused by the shock of a sudden separation from a primary caretaker. From that time onward, the child does everything possible to prevent being left alone. This child feels abandoned and reacts with manipulation and even violence in seeking protection from further abandonment. The child insists on being watched constantly and wakes up frequently at night to check that the parents are still nearby. This child won’t stay alone for even a minute and is rude and abusive to those around them, even to friends. The child can be extremely jealous and threatening to siblings. Gallic acid children are often hyperactive and cannot focus on their tasks, or schoolwork.

Hura - Hura treats the condition of feeling unwanted and abandoned by one’s nearest relatives, or friends. The child will feel that she doesn’t belong, doesn’t fit in. In addition, Hura children feel that they are disgusting as though they have leprosy and are, therefore, outcasts. Some Hura children will compensate for the feeling of being despised by showing contempt for others. The child will often have a skin disorder, such as eczema, or joint problems such as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Lac humanum – Lac humanum is a remedy made from human breast milk. The child who needs it will feel completely alone, as if nobody is there for them. This is the experience of many adopted children who never receive bonding from the birthmother and who were never breastfed. The child feels a sense of isolation, even a sense of not inhabiting her own body. Others easily take advantage of her because she tends to their needs before her own.

Magnesium carbonicum – J. T. Kent wrote in his Lectures on Homeopathic Materia Medica: “I once had in charge an orphanage, where we had sixty to one hundred babies on hand all the time. The puzzle of my life was to find remedies for the cases that were going into marasmus (wasting away). A large number of them were clandestine babies. It was sort of Sheltering Arms for these little ones. The whole year elapsed, and we were losing babies every week from this gradual decline, until I saw the image of these babies in Magnesia carbonicum and after that many of them were cured.” Because of Kent’s work, this is usually the first remedy thought of for adoptive children, or orphans.

Magnesium muriaticum – The Magnesium muriaticum child is a peacemaker. It’s a good remedy for children whose parents are arguing or divorcing, or whose family members are engaged in conflict. The Magnesium muriaticum child wants everyone to be happy and harmonious. An adopted child who needs Magnesium muriaticum will be frightened whenever her parents argue, fearing that they will break-up and she will be abandoned, just as her birthmother had abandoned her.

Natrum muriaticum – Like the Anacardium state, the Natrum muriaticum state can be caused by isolation and separation at birth. It is a well-known remedy for babies who have been taken from their mothers and placed in an incubator at birth. The Natrum muriaticum child is easily hurt and protects herself with emotional reserve. There is an inner grief due to being left alone without adequate nurturing. These children are so closed it’s hard to get to know them. They say little and reveal nothing about what is really going on in their lives. They are easily offended, and remember any insult for a long time – sometimes forever.

Pulsatilla – The Pulsatilla state can be caused by rejection of the child by the mother, or separation from the mother at an early age. The child feels unloved and unwanted. In her struggle to get enough love, the child will be clingy, weepy and manipulative. She has an insatiable desire for attention and reassurance, often asking, “Do you love me?”

Saccharum officianale – A remedy for those who did not receive enough love, or nurturing, in their early life. The child will usually have an extreme craving for sweets and may have a sugar imbalance problem such as hypoglycemia. She may also have extreme thirst. The child will compensate for lack of nurturing with two types of behaviors: firstly, she may constantly seek closeness with the parents, especially the mother, always wanting cuddles and wanting to sleep in the parent’s bed. And secondly, the child may have behavior problems such as kicking and hitting other children, sibling jealousy, defiant behavior, or hyperactivity. Some children will compensate for a lack of nurturing by refusing any form of affection. These children have the same desperate need for love, but will refuse contact with the parents.

Not every adopted child will need one of these remedies. We always recommend remedies based on the totality of the whole person, not just one factor such as adoption. Any troubled child, whether adopted or not, will benefit from professional homeopathic care. The homeopath may consider the wounds of adoption as a possible etiology, and will determine if any of these remedies fit the picture.

Stomach Cancer And Homeopathy

stomach cancer homeopathy cure

The more we can learn about what causes cancer, the more likely we are to find ways to prevent it. Scientists study patterns of cancer in the population to look for factors that affect the risk of developing this disease. In the laboratory, they explore possible causes of cancer and try to determine what actually happens when normal cells become cancerous.

Our current understanding of the causes of cancer is incomplete, but it is clear that cancer is not caused by an injury, such as a bump or bruise. And although being infected with certain viruses may increase the risk of some types of cancer, cancer is not contagious no one can “catch” cancer from another person.

Cancer develops gradually as a result of a complex mix of factors related to environment, lifestyle, and heredity. Scientists have identified many risk factors that increase the chance of getting cancer. They estimate that about 80 percent of all cancers are related to the use of tobacco products, to what we eat and drink, or, to a lesser extent, to exposure to radiation or cancer-causing agents (carcinogens) in the environment and the workplace. Some people are more sensitive than others to factors that can cause cancer.

Many risk factors can be avoided. Others, such as inherited risk factors, are, unavoidable. It is helpful to be aware of them, but it Is also important to keep in mind that not everyone with a particular risk factor for cancer actually gets the disease; in fact, most do not. People at risk can help protect themselves by avoiding risk factors where possible and by getting regular checkups so that, if cancer develops, it is likely to be found early.

These are some of the factors that are known to increase the risk of cancer.

Tobacco – Tobacco causes cancer. In fact, smoking tobacco, using “smokeless” tobacco, and being regularly exposed to environmental tobacco smoke without smoking are responsible for one-third of all cancer deaths. Smoking accounts for more than 85 percent of all lung cancer deaths. If you smoke, your risk of getting lung cancer is affected by the number and type of cigarettes you smoke and how long you have been smoking. Overall, for those who smoke one pack a day, the chance of setting lung cancer is about 10 times greater than for nonsmokers.

Smokers are also more likely than nonsmokers to develop several other types of cancer (such as oral cancer and cancers of the larynx, esophagus, pancreas, bladder, kidney, and cervix). The risk of cancer begins to decrease when a smoker quits, and the risk continues to decline gradually each year after quitting.

The use of smokeless tobacco (chewing, tobacco and snuff) causes cancer of the mouth and throat. Pre-cancerous conditions, or tissue changes that may lead to cancer, begin to go away after a person stops using smokeless tobacco.

Exposure to environmental tobacco smokes, also called involuntary smoking, increases the risk of lung cancer for nonsmokers. The risk goes up 30 percent or more for a nonsmoking spouse of a person who smokes. Involuntary smoking causes about 4,000 lung cancer deaths in this country each year.

If you use tobacco in any form and you need help quitting, talk with your doctor or dentist, or join a smoking cessation group sponsored by a local hospital or voluntary organization.

Diet : Your choice of foods may affect your chance of developing cancer. Evidence points to a link between a high-fat diet and certain cancers, such as cancer of the breast, colon, uterus, and prostate. Being seriously overweight appears to be linked to increased rates of cancer of the prostate, pancreas, uterus, Colon, and ovary, and to breast cancer in older women. On the other hand, studies suggest that foods containing fiber and certain nutrients help protect us against some types of cancer. You may be able to reduce your cancer risk by making some simple food choices. Try to have a varied, well-balanced diet that includes generous amounts of foods that are high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. At the same time, try to cut down on fatty foods. You should eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day, choose more whole-grain breads and cereals, and cut down on eggs, high-fat meat, high-fat dairy products (such as whole milk, butter, and most cheeses), salad dressings, margarine, and cooking oils.

Sunlight : Ultraviolet radiation from the sun and from other sources (such as sunlamps and tanning booths) damages the skin and can cause skin cancer. (Two types of ultraviolet radiation–UVA and UVB–are explained in the Medical Terms section.) Repeated exposure to ultraviolet radiation increases the risk of skin cancer, especially if you have fair skin or freckle easily. The sun is ultraviolet rays are strongest during the summer from about 11 a.m. to about 3 p.m. (daylight saving time). The risk is greatest at this time, when the sun is high overhead and shadows are short. As a rule, it is best to avoid the sun when your shadow is shorter than you are.

Protective clothing, such as a hat and, long sleeves, can help block the sun’s harmful rays. You can also use sunscreens to help protect yourself. Sunscreens are rated in strength according to their SPF (sun protection factor), which ranges from 2 to 30 and higher. Those rated 15 to 30 block most of the sun’s harmful rays.

Alcohol. Drinking, large amount of alcohol increases the risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and larynx. (People who smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol have an especially high risk of getting these cancers.) Alcohol can damage the liver and increase the risk of liver cancer. Some studies suggest that drinking alcohol also increases the risk of breast cancer. So if you drink at all, do so in moderation-not more than one or two drinks a day.

Radiation : X-rays used for diagnosis expose you to very little radiation and the benefits nearly always outweigh the risks. However, repeated exposure can be harmful, so it is a good idea to talk with your doctor or dentist about the need for each x-ray and ask about the use of shields to protect other parts of your body. Before 1950, X-rays were used to treat non-cancerous conditions (such as an enlarged thymus, enlarged tonsils and adenoids, ringworm of the scalp, and acne) in children and young adults. People who have received radiation to the head and neck have a higher-than-average risk of developing thyroid cancer years later. People with a history of such treatments should report it to their doctor and should have a careful exam of the neck every 1 or 2 years.

Also, radiation used in the treatment of some types of cancer can increase the risk of developing a second cancer. Patients having radiation therapy may want to discuss this issue with their doctor.

Chemicals and other substances in the workplace being exposed to substances such as metals, dust chemicals, or pesticides at work can increase the risk of cancer. Asbestos, nickel, cadmium, uranium, radon, vinyl chloride, benzidene, and benzene are well-known examples of carcinogens in the workplace. These may act alone or along with another carcinogen, such as cigarette smoke. For example, inhaling asbestos fibers increases the risk of lung diseases, including cancer, and the cancer risk is especially high for asbestos workers who smoke. It is important to follow work and safety rules to avoid contact with dangerous materials.

Hormone replacement therapy: Many women use estrogen therapy to control the hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and osteoporosis (thinning of the bones) that may occur during menopause. However, studies show that estrogen use increases the risk of cancer of the uterus. Other studies suggest an increased risk of breast cancer among women who have used high doses of estrogen or have used estrogen for a long time. At the same time, taking estrogen may reduce the risk of heart disease and osteoporosis.

The risk of uterine cancer appears to be less when progesterone is used with estrogen than when estrogen is used alone. But some scientists are concerned that the addition of progesterone may also increase the CANCER risk of breast cancer.

HOMEOPATHY APPCHOCH IN STOMACH

Out of ten person, one person suffering fron gestrities and out of them hundred one person suffering from stoch cancer. If the cancer can be identified at a time when it only involves the superficial lining layer of the stomach and only involves a few cells and such a stomach cancer is surgically removed 90 % of these individuals are likely to have a normal life span . However if the stomach cancer has involved all the layers of the stomach this chance decreases to 50% and if it has spread outside the stomach or to distant organs of the body the chances of surviving in the long term are extremely gloomy .

CAUSE FOR STOMACH CANCER

1. Benign stomach (gastric ) ulcer , in most instances these benign ulcers in the stomach do not become malignant although in a few cancerous change can supervene after many years . Helicobacter pylori infection of the stomach appears to be an important cause of gastric ulcers .

2. Chronic duodenal ulcer , this is a common condition of the duodenum , the organ situated next to the stomach . we can reassure those with this condition that even after many years of having a chronic duodenal ulcer , the chances of it becoming malignant are almost nil.

3. Gastritis with low or absent stomach acid production . This situation can occur in an uncommon illness. Pernicious anemia and it can also occur without any obvious reason . Here absent or low levels of stomach acid which is normally produced to aid digestion is associated with the disappearance of gastric glands and this is called atrophic gastritis . Atrophic gastritis is a pre malignant condition .

GENATIC DISPOSITION OF STOMACH CANCER

Inherited causes :family history of stomach cancer ,such a history in a near relative doubles a person’s chances of developing stomach cancer during their life time

Type A blood group ,the common blood groups are A,B,O ,and AB. A person with type A blood has a 20% increased chance of developing stomach cancer during their life time compared to those with other blood groups

Personal health risks: presence of Helicobacter pylori in the stomach .this is an organism which in recent has been associated not only with stomach cancer but also with gastric and duodenal ulcers and with inflammatory changes called gastritis . why Helicobacter infection is present in some individuals but not in others is at present in some individuals but not in others is at present is uncertain , although it may be linked to both undesirable Helicobacter infection probably cause no symptoms . Helicobacter Pylori infection can usually be eradicated by the use of suitable antibiotics . It has also been suggested recently by Australian scientists that the regular intake of acidophilus bacteria (found in some brands of yoghurt and in some bacteria supplements )can also eradicate Helicobacter infection. Previous surgical removal of part of the stomach (partial gastrectomy ) for a non malignant condition , such as a gastric or duodenal ulcer . This become a stomach cancer risk some 15-40 years after the stomach has been removed . Pernicious anemia ,Individuals with this uncommon condition not only have anemia but also have no normal stomach acid production . They develop the condition previously described , atrophic gastritis . Individuals with atrophic gastritis have a 10 %chance of developing stomach cancer during their life time . Low or absent stomach acid production with atrophic gastritis , even in the absence of pernicious anemia , this is a risk for the future development of stomach cancer

Life style health risks : Dietary factors, a special risk for stomach cancer is a diet which is low in vegetables , fruit and cereals and particularly those fruits , vegetables and cereals which contain a lot of beta-carotene , vitamin-c and vitamin-e

A diet high in pickled . smoked , salted or cured food or foods preserved with nitrate , such as salami ,sausages , hot dogs , smoked meat , smoked fish or pickled food of any kind are also risks for stomach cancer . These dietary factors are probably important because the risk foods described above all seem to produce carcinogens

called nitrosamines . Also vitamin-C acts as antioxidant and has other actions which neutralize the effects of nitrosamines . Dietary factors are probably the most important single cause of stomach cancer . Smoking , a recent Australian study which examined all the scientific evidence published over the years has found that smoking is likely to be an important contributory cause of stomach cancer .

PRIMARY PREVENTION CANCER :

1.Dietary changes it is particularly important to have a high consumption of fruit ,vegetables and cereals which contain beta-carotene ,vitamin-c and vitamin-e and at the same time avoid or eat very little pickled ,smoked ,salted ,cured and nitrate –preserved foods .In a recently reported study from China ,where stomach cancer is still relatively common ,the daily use of vitamin-e ,beta carotene and selenium supplements decreased stomach cancer risk by one-fifth .

2. Avoid smoking ,hints and guidance about quitting smoking are described

3. Eradicate Helicobacter Pylori , if helicobacter infection has been shown to be present ,suitable antibiotics can be used recent research suggests that the acidophilus bacteria found in some dietary supplements may also been effective way to eliminate helicobacter infection

4. Aspirin based mainly on experimental data ,the regular use of aspirin as a preventive for stomach cancer has been advanced . However the human evidence of a preventive role for aspirin in stomach cancer is insufficient at present to make such a recommendation .

ROLE FOR HOMEOPATHY TREATMENT

In alternative medicine in homoeopathy medicine can cure cancer in various age group of person. In early stage of cancer may help to patient life Many people with cancer want to learn all they can about their disease and their treatment choices so they can take an active part in decisions about their medical care. Often, it helps to make a list of questions to ask the doctor. Patients may take notes or, with the doctor’s consent, tape record the discussion. Some patients also find it helps to have a family member or friend with them when they talk with the doctor to take part in the discussion, to take notes, or just to listen.

• Here are some questions may want to ask the doctor: What are the chances that the treatment will be successful?
• Would a clinical trial be appropriate for me?
• What are the risks and possible side effects of each treatment?

Although the side effects of radiation therapy can be unpleasant, the doctor can usually treat or control them. It also helps to know that, in most cases, they are not permanent.
number of white blood cells, cells that help protect the body against infection
Chemotherapy —the side effects of chemotherapy depends mainly on the drugs and doses the patient receives. Generally, anticancer drugs affect cells that divide rapidly. These include blood cells, which fight infection, help the blood to clot, or carry oxygen to all parts of the body. When blood cells are affected by anticancer drugs, patients are more likely to get infections, may bruise or bleed easily, and may have less energy. Cells that line the digestive tract also divide rapidly. As a result of chemotherapy, patients may have side effects, such as loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, hair loss, or mouth sores. For some patients, the doctor may prescribe medicine to help with side effects, especially with nausea and vomiting. Usually, these side effects gradually go away during the recovery period or after treatment stops. Hair loss another side effect of chemotherapy, is a major concern for many patients. Some chemotherapy drugs only cause the hair to thin out, while others may result in the loss of all body hair. Patients may feel better if they decide how to handle hair loss before starting treatment.

In some men and women, chemotherapy drugs cause changes that may result in a loss of fertility (the ability to have children). Loss of fertility may be temporary or permanent depending on the drugs used and the patient’s age. For men, sperm banking before treatment may be a choice. Women’s menstrual periods may stop, and they may have hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Periods are more likely to return in young women. In some cases, bone marrow transplantation and peripheral stem cell support are used to replace tissue that forms blood cells when that tissue has been destroyed by the effects of chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Hormone Therapy –Hormone therapy can cause a number of side effects. Patients may have nausea and vomiting, swelling or weight gain, and, in some cases, hot flashes. In women, hormone therapy also may cause interrupted menstrual periods, vaginal dryness, and, sometimes, loss of fertility. Hormone therapy in men may cause impotence, loss of sexual desire, or loss of fertility. These changes may be temporary, long lasting, or permanent.

HOMOEOPATHIC TREATMENT/MEDICINES

CHELIDINIUM : It has also cured cancer of the stomach when in a ,vomiting for cancer of throat , mouth or stomach .

Condurango : In cancer of oesophagus or stomach . There are many other medicines , only few have been mentioned

Dining With A Homeopath

My friend Dr. Barbara Brennan invited us for dinner this weekend. I had not heard from her in quite a while. She had called me two years ago, after I wrote about her decision to give up her practice when she became ill.

This time her call was prompted by a couple of things I wrote recently. I had used Hippocrates’ word “miasmic” in “A Walking Time-Bomb” and I quoted Hippocrates’ words about “love of humanity” in “Bitter Medicine”.

After the usual greetings, Barbara took us into her home office, which still looked like a physician’s study, but along one wall was a new set of bookcases, filled with less familiar titles.

“I’ve been studying”, Barbara explained, as her hand moved along books with homeopathic titles.

Samuel Hahnemann, physician and the founder of homeopathy, used Hippocrates’ word “miasm” for chronic diseases and inherited states of dis-ease. I was aware of that, but Barbara quickly brought my wife and me up to date on how this concept applies to modern homeopathy and modern diseases.

Barbara has been studying homeopathy online, at her own pace because of her condition, and is quite far along because of her foundation as a brilliant allopathic physician. Barbara also swears that the homeopathic remedies have helped her regain her health and her stamina.

Ironically, Hahnemann is the one who coined the term “allopathic”, and it was not intended to be a term of flattery. The mainstream medicine of Hahnemann’s time relied on bloodletting, purges and many other barbaric treatments, which didn’t stand the test of time. Hahnemann was a well read linguist, who supported his growing family by translating scientific texts because he couldn’t bring himself to embrace the medical practice of his era. He was, however, quick to adopt the germ theory and many of the emerging concepts of disease.

Over an exquisite dinner with Italian haddock with risotto and a nice Chianti, Barbara told us that not only is she now a student of homeopathy, she had also been helped by it. She is getting her energy back, and she is starting to feel well again.

One of Barbara’s mentors, Dr. Luc De Schepper, is, like Samuel Hahnemann, a European physician, who turned toward homeopathy when he didn’t find traditional medicine to address all the needs of his patients. In the concluding chapter of his book “Hahnemann Revisited” he quotes the same Hippocratic passage I quoted in my recent blog post:

“if an opportunity arises for helping a poor man, one should do so as best as one can, for he who loves men must also love the art of healing.” Hippocrates

Dr. De Schepper continues:

“Allopathic medicine is in a devastating financial crisis, with hospitals going bankrupt all around us and nearly 50 million Americans lacking health insurance; homeopathy can offer health care which is both effective and extremely cost-effective. Many allopathic medicines and procedures cause painful or harmful side effects, to the point that allopathic practitioners come to my school in despair, declaring that they cannot in good conscience continue to practice what they know…

…Let us look beyond the obvious, however, and consider our role as healers, our relationship with our patients, and our purpose in healing…

…In homeopathy the dynamic between practitioner and patient is more balanced, which provides greater empowerment and involvement to the patient and greater fulfillment to the practitioner.”

I listened to Barbara, to the passion and conviction in her voice; I watched her new vitality and felt her energy. She has more of it now than in her prime as an allopath. I looked at some of the modern texts she was reading and I thought to myself: Did we, the allopathic physicians, simply drop our Olympic torch? Have other kinds of practitioners stolen our fire, or did our negligence inspire them to step in where we used to be?

As I read in a Wall Street Journal article this weekend that the diabetes drug Avandia can now only be prescribed as a last resort due to its links to cardiac deaths, I remembered how, not very long ago, there was pressure on my profession to prescribe it routinely and early in the course of diabetic treatment because it was supposed to decrease death rates in diabetics.

Are today’s allopathic physicians becoming the bloodletters and purgers of a new dark era of uncaring brutality in medicine, leaving the torch of compassion for humanity and passion for healing to be carried by practitioners of what we disdainfully call alternative medicine?

Getting Acquainted With Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an alternative approach to medicine based on the belief that natural substances, prepared in a special way and used in small amounts, restores health. It is a sophisticated method of individualizing small doses of medicines to start the healing response. Homeopathic remedies seem especially effective for people with chronic diseases.

Homeopathy focuses on the individual and their symptoms to bring long lasting benefits, wellness and happiness. Therapy is based on the “Law of Similarity” known as treating “like with like”. The remedies are highly diluted natural substances and have been used throughout the world for over 200 years. Homeopathy remedies can be safely used along with most conventional medicines.

Homeopathic remedies are derived from plant, mineral and animal origins. They stimulate the body, giving it a gentle boost of natural energy for healing. There is no danger of addiction or toxicity and the remedies are considered safe, even for pregnant and sensitive patients.

The Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia Convention of the United States establishes good industry standards and manufacturing procedures in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Due to the overwhelming safety record of the homeopathic approach and extreme dilutions, the FDA does not use the same standards for approval of homeopathic medicines as it does for conventional drugs.

Homeopathic remedies work on all systems of the body with mental, physical and emotional guiding symptoms listed in the order of importance. Homeopathic remedies can treat a wide range of symptoms such as sore throats, toothaches, acute fevers, chronic illnesses such as arthritis, eczema, asthma, anxiety, mild depression, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Homeopathic practitioners use a repertory. This is an index of symptoms that explores the remedies for a particular symptom and lists the remedy for each symptom. Repertories are often extensive and may include data from clinical experience and “provings”. A compilation of reports of many homeopathic “provings” is known as a homeopathy materia medica. This listing contains commonly used homeopathic single remedies and lists symptoms that fit each remedy. The catalog assists the homeopath in finding the right remedy for each individual patient.

A homeopath will usually listen to a patient’s emotional and physical symptoms and then chooses a remedy closest to the individual symptom picture. The remedy stimulates the body’s own natural healing process and strengthens the immune system, without danger of side effects.

Homeopathic remedies and conventional medicine may work together. Remedies do not interact with other medicines and do not have side effects. However, it is advised to have a health care provider closely monitor the situation.

Child Allergic Asthma Can Be Cured With Homeopathy

Children asthma cure homeopathy
When a person has an asthma attack, the inflammation in the respiratory system makes breathing difficult. Homeopathic treatments usually involve giving the body a minuscule amount of the substance causing the reaction to help the body learn how to cope. Once a homeopath finds the right treatment, patients can find relief. Because treatments are extremely individualized, clinical research in homeopathy is difficult; the same remedy is not the correct remedy for every case of a disease. Homeopathic treatment, however, can be taken in conjunction with prescribed drugs, providing a safe, alternative method for people to cope with asthma. The goal of homeopathic treatment for asthma is to identify the root cause for the attacks, and then to use the bodies own healing processes to transform the triggers into remedies.Asthma is viewed differently in each person, because each person is afflicted in a different way. Factors considered by the homeopath include frequency of attacks, possible allergens and other symptoms. The health of the whole body, not just the respiratory system, is addressed. Ultimately, homeopathy might create a cure for the asthma by strengthening and balancing the immune system.
Asthma Homeopathic treatment
When treating an asthmatic patient with homeopathic remedies, great care must be taken to record the exact symptoms experienced during an attack to properly identify the correct remedy.
Popular homeopathic remedies for asthma include:
· Pulsatilla works well if symptoms are spasmodic; the patient feels a lot of weight and anxiety about the chest; there is sudden wheezing, difficulty breathing, and a feeling of suffocation, which is made worse if the patient moves or is warmed; and the cough creates retching and vomiting. Ipecac might be called for when the cough is continuous and the chest seems full of phlegm, yet nothing is coughed up. The extremities are covered with cold sweat. · Ipecanum is similar to Arsenic alb., and is especially useful if the disease is chronic, the patient is older and the labored breathing is habitual and dry. It is used when the attacks occur between midnight and 2 a.m. The patient’s dry wheezing may progress to a cough that brings up frothy, whitish fluid. He or she feels exhausted yet experiences a lot of anguish and restlessness, fearing suffocation if he or she lies down. There is a general sweat, and the person can be thirsty, taking frequent, tiny sips. If the patient falls asleep again, he or she is awakened with soreness and burning pain in the chest and heat in the head. Warmth often brings improvement. Arsenicum follows Ipecac well, and is especially useful in those who are anemic. · Carbo veg is helpful when symptoms include a tense, constricted feeling in the lower part of the chest, with pressure in the stomach. The patient finds some relief by belching, and the patient must loosen his or her clothing. Problems are often worse in the morning. It might be useful when gastric disturbances bring on the asthmatic attacks, and during simple spasmodic asthma. Both mental exertion and physical effort can make symptoms worse, while warmth and sleep often bring relief. Overindulgence in sweets, spicy food, stimulants and alcohol are common. If there is a lot of abdominal irritation and much flatulence, Nux vomica might be combined with Lycopodium and Carbo vegetabilis. · Kali bich might help patients who experience attacks at about 3 or 4 a.m., with a feeling as if there were no air in the chest. The patient feels compelled to sit up to breathe, and bending forward while sitting brings some relief. The patient coughs up stringy yellow mucus. · Natrum mur treats general symptoms including a worsening of asthma when exposed to mold and dampness; attacks occur at about 4 to 5 a.m.; and the patient sits up and holds the chest with the hands while coughing. Wheezing and breathing difficulties are aggravated by exertion. The patient usually also has loose bowels after each attack. · Antimonium tartaricum (Ant.t), a remedy used by conventional medicine for asthma, can also be used as a homoeopathic treatment for certain symptoms. The keynote for using this option is the presence of fine rattling or crackling sounds in the chest. The chest also seems full of phlegm that the patient cannot cough up. The patient must sit up at about 3 a.m., has great difficulty breathing, and feels suffocated. Antimonium tartaricum is especially suited to young children and the elderly. · Spongia  is strongly indicated by a barking cough during an asthma attack. Labored breathing has a sawing sound and little mucus is produced. The person may feel best when leaning forward or when sitting up and tilting the head back. Warm drinks may be helpful. The problems usually begin before midnight while the person is asleep.

Why Is Homeopathy Under Attack All The Time?

When the Government recently decided to support patient choice and continue funding homeopathy on the NHS, there were howls of outrage from leading medics and skeptics alike.  Its statement published at the end of July appeared to ignore the Chief Scientific Advisor’s advice, as well as an Evidence Check Report published last February by the House of Commons’ Science and Technology Committee.

In its response to the conclusions of the Report, the Government decided to continue paying around £4 million a year to keep homeopathy available to NHS patients.  This was great news for those who choose it but the British Medical Association (BMA) were not impressed.  At their annual conference in July they had voted against the funding, despite the fact that the founder of our public health service, Labour MP Aneurin Bevan, had pledged his commitment to homeopathy at the birth of the NHS in 1948.

Nowadays, millions of  people around the world use homeopathic medicines.  One million people in Europe take it, with almost all French pharmacies dispensing homeopathic remedies and 70 per cent of French doctors considering it effective.  In Germany 20 per cent of doctors treat patients with homeopathy and in the Netherlands 47 per cent.  In India there are 400,000 homeopathic doctors with 13,000 graduating every year!  Its popularity continues to grow, making it a threat to the powerful pharmaceutical industry.

Huge savings could be made if more patients went to homeopathic doctors and practitioners.  For example, the cost of treating asthma on the NHS is £1 billion annually, yet many people have been cured after having homeopathic treatment.  Angela Byrne, 44, from Surrey, suffered since the age of 16, her asthma becoming full blown by the age of 26.  For the next 14 years she ended up using two inhalers -  ‘When I was 40, I went for homeopathic treatment and for the past four years, I have no longer needed any medication whatsoever when my symptoms disappeared for good!’A new row broke out recently when the BMA uncovered the fact that spending on homeopathy in Scotland is double that of the rest of the UK.  This amounts to an annual total of 60,000 prescriptions with the Scottish Government backing the funding.

It was revealed in a programme aired on BBC Scotland on 13th September entitled ‘Magic or Medicine’.  The overall water theme of the programme was an attempt to emphasise the notion that homeopathy is nothing more than water, which completely missed the fact that all remedies are made using one-third alcohol as a preservative, an integral part of the preparation!

Dr. Ben Goldacre, a health journalist who wrote a book called Bad Science debunking homeopathy, asserted that homeopathic medicines work only through the placebo effect, though the question would then arise as to whether pharmaceutical drugs work in a similar manner.

When the Commons’ Science and Technology Committee conducted its Evidence Check last November, it also concluded the action of placebo effect.  Yet the fact that homeopathy successfully treats animals, tends to discount this, through at least 85 animal studies.

Only half of the 14 Members of the Science and Technology Committee actually attended the two oral hearings and those MPs who did, appeared to have little knowledge or understanding of it.  Of the nine witnesses called at the first hearing, the only two who had any relevant qualifications were Dr. Peter Fisher, the Queen’s physician and Clinical Director of the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital and Dr. Robert Mathie, Research Development Adviser of the British Homeopathic Association.

The Commons’ Committee Report was voted on by just five of its fourteen members, with only three MPs ratifying it, yet next day the headline went round the world proclaiming: ‘MPs call for an End to Homeopathy on the NHS’, based on just three votes!

In addition, out of a total of 66, nearly 40 positive written submissions compiled by the homeopathic profession, did not seem to have been properly considered by the Committee.  There was also no-one called to represent patients.

Homeopathy has always provoked violent reactions and efforts to try to ban it are not new.  In 1858 the British Medical Association passed internal rules that forbade their members from practising it or even consulting with a homeopath.

In 1847, the American Medical Association published a code of ethics which also stated that physicians would lose their membership if they consulted with a homeopath.  At an AMA meeting, Dr. J.N. McCormack of Kentucky, who was the driving force behind the 1903 reorganisation of the AMA, said: ‘We must admit that we never fought the homeopath on matters of principle.  We fought him because he came into the community and got the business.’

So why does the medical establishment feel so threatened by this gentle form of treatment which is cheap, can be used by pregnant women, babies and the elderly with few, if any, side effects and people swearing by its effectiveness?

In fact it was so popular that during the mid-1800s there were 100 homeopathic hospitals and 1,000 homeopathic pharmacies in America.  In Britain there were 100s of homeopathic dispensaries as well as a total of 14 homeopathic hospitals!  There was also a strong following in Europe by royalty and the aristocracy.

Many of the famous swore by it including writers Charles Dickens, William Makepeace Thackeray, George Bernard Shawrtists such as Pierre Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Paul Gauguin and the composers Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin and Robert Alexander Schumann, to name a few.  Are we expected to believe these cultural giants were deluded into taking placebos?

During these times homeopathic medicines also proved to be extremely effective in treating epidemics throughout Europe, Britain and America, such as scarlet fever, cholera, typhoid, diptheria, yellow fever, polio and influenza.

In 1854 there was a cholera epidemic in London but when the House of Commons asked to see a report about the methods of treatment, patients who had received homeopathic treatment at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital, were not included. The House of Lords then demanded an explanation and it was later shown that under conventional medical care the death rate was 59.2 per cent but for patients under homeopathic care, only 9 per cent!

Vigorous attempts to stamp out homeopathy were stepped up in 1910 when the Carnegie Foundation commissioned a report by Abraham Flexner, a prominent figure chosen to reform American medical education.  This report was an evaluation of US medical schools and it gave the homeopathic and herbal colleges a bad rating.  In 1900 there had been 22 homeopathic colleges but only two were left in 1923.
Despite what critics say, there have been a great number of trials and studies on homeopathy over the past 20 years.  In 2007, the largest one ever undertaken was of 2.3 million people in Cuba.  An epidemic of leptospirosis was prevented during the flooding season when the Cuban government decided to treat the entire population of the worst affected provinces with a homeopathic medicine, due to a shortage of vaccines.
Leptospirosis is an infectious disease of a bacteria called spirochete caused by ingesting contaminated water or food during periods of heavy rain and flooding.  It can lead to inflammation of the nerves of the eyes and brain as well as meningitis.  Right upper area abdominal pain may occur and less common symptoms relate to disease of the liver, lungs, kidneys, and heart.

The Finlay Institute in Cuba prepared the remedy Leptospira 200c using four circulating strains and people were given two doses taken seven days apart. Within a few weeks, the number of cases had fallen by nearly 90 per cent to only four cases per 100,000 per week.  The 8.8 million population of the other provinces did not receive homeopathic treatment and the incidence was as forecast.

Many eminent scientists and doctors vehemently dislike homeopathy because it challenges their scientific viewpoint and they would rather close their minds and deny it. Yet the spirit of science demands experimentation and investigation.  The truth is that the history of homeopathy is littered with scores of conventional medical practitioners who converted to using it.

Dr. Brian Kaplan of Harley Street, London, is one such convert.  He first discovered homeopathy in 1981 just after he had qualified as a doctor.  “I wandered into a bookshop and a paperback caught my eye. It was called Homeopathy by a Dr. A. C. Gordon-Ross.  I had heard of homeopathy but never dreamt that it was used by doctors. I was entranced by the story of Dr. Gordon-Ross and realised that I would have to look into this.”

“I had found medicine fascinating but ultimately too mechanistic.  The theory of homeopathy felt intuitively correct.  It made sense in most cases to try to stimulate the body’s natural healing ability to do the job itself.  I saw some results in my early days as a homeopathic doctor that really blew me away!  This is the story that you will hear from many homeopathic doctors.”

“When I first began studying homeopathy, I had to have four wisdom teeth out under local anaesthetic. They were hard to get out and my mouth was left bruised and bleeding.  I couldn’t even eat that evening.  I took Arnica 200c and Hypericum 10M, using Hypercal solution to rinse my mouth. When I woke up the next morning I couldn’t believe the result!  I had no discomfort at all.  I simply couldn’t believe how dramatically I had responded.”

He continued:  “When working at a charity clinic I inherited a patient whose arthritis had consistently responded to Argentum Metallicum 6c.  One day she came to me in great consternation because the pills had not worked at all.  I asked to see the bottle of pills, which she happened to have on her.  They were a different remedy, Argentum Nitricum 6c.  This showed me that homeopathy was not placebo.”

The question must be asked why so much time, effort and money is being put into attacking homeopathy?  If it really was just harmless sugar pills, what would be the point?  If millions of people say it worked for them, can this all really only be ‘anecdotal evidence’?

In fact homeopathy is actually based upon sound scientific principles. Discovered by German doctor Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago, he was the first doctor to conduct trials on medicines!  In his first experiment, though perfectly healthy at the time, he found that by giving himself repeated doses of cinchona bark (quinine), he brought on all the symptoms of a malaria attack -  fever with heat and chills.

He then wondered if a substance that could cause a disease might cure it by using tiny doses, which he found to be the case.  This is healing according to the Law of Similars or ‘like cures like’, described by the Greek physician Hippocrates as far back as the 4th century BC.  Orthodox medicine generally utilises the Law of Opposites, i.e. antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, antidepressants, antihistamines, etc.

Hahnemann set about discovering the healing properties of plants, metals and minerals by testing them on himself and on healthy volunteers or ‘Provers’, recording all the symptoms that each substance caused.  He even created a ‘Provers Union’!

After some years of practising, Hahnemann found that the tiny doses of substances he was using, were still causing side effects but when he reduced the dosage too far, there was no effect. He noticed that by serially diluting and succussing a substance (shaking and striking the phial a number of times between numerical potencies), it became safer to use on the sick. He found unwanted side effects disappeared and medicines were made more effective.

Hahnemann went on to test hundreds of substances on himself and healthy volunteer Provers, matching the tested substances to heal symptoms in his patients and all the while keeping accounts of detailed observations.  Far from being ideas-based, this is completely evidence-based, empirical medicine – an almost unique concept at that time.

Migraine Cures With Homeopathy

curing migraine headaches homeopathy

When it comes to curing migraines there is nothing like homeopathy

Kinita, a young executive, carries the label, ‘chirpy geek,’ courtesy of her friends. She’s always on the move, trying to climb several ladders at one go. A stickler, a live-wire, she is an achiever — a tizzy bundle of kinetic energy. Till it comes to her head — oh, that awful ache, or uninvited spoilsport, in her ‘happening’ world.

It’s just about everyone’s diagnosis, more so when a nagging headache comes to stay. The fact is not all headaches are migraine. They could be tension or ‘cluster’ headaches too.

Migraine is actually a complex syndrome. It affects millions of people worldwide. What distinguishes the disorder, from other types of headache, is periodic or episodic ache, or pain. Migraine usually affects people in their mid-twenties, or 30s, especially ‘perfectionist-achievers.’ Interestingly, it is also common in children. Have you not heard parents complain that their child has had ‘migraine-type’ of headaches for as long as they know?

Help with Homeopathy

Conventional medicines offer only short-term relief from migraines. Add to this side-effects, and one may sometimes feel that these medicines could, perforce, be worse than the disorder.

From the therapeutic viewpoint, homoeopathy provides the best possible long-term solution for migraines. It presents through its medicinal armamentarium the most comprehensive, safe, and effective treatment for a vast majority of migraine victims. This is no placebo effect, as many would erroneously believe. Rather, homeopathy has an excellent clinical record in treating the disorder, safely and successfully.

Homeopathy aims to treat the individual that carries the migraine burden on his/her head, rather than the problem per se. Remember, no two individuals with migraines display the same set of symptoms, peculiarities, sensitivities, or temperament. Homeopathy elicits and treats these special characteristics, from the back-to-front, looking at the possible causes or triggers.

Homeopathy evidences that a certain medicine that can cause migraine-like symptoms can also treat individuals having migraine, and exhibiting the same, unique set of symptoms. However, what distinguishes homeopathy from other systems is no two individuals with migraine may be prescribed the same medicine. Rather, the appropriate medicine takes its cue from the nature of each individual’s distinguishing symptoms. One individual with migraine, for example, may feel better with a hankie tied around the head; while another may feel worse. This calls for the use of two different homeopathic remedies.

To cull a realistic example, the homeopathic medicine, Gelsemium, may be ideally suited for migraine in individuals, who tend to overstrain their eyes and also minds. The pain starts typically in the nape of the neck, or on the back of the head, and comes up over the head to settle in the right eye. There may also be a feeling of a band across the head.

Belladonna may be useful in menstrual migraine; the pain is often throbbing in nature or pattern. It tends to be worse in the afternoon. The individual’s eyes may be inflamed; moving them may be painful. The face may be puffed up; also red. Light and noise are unbearable.

For migraine preceded by partial blindness, or blurring of vision, with vomiting, Iris Versicolor is suggested to be the most ‘favoured’ remedy. Likewise, for migraine with depression, Zincum Valerianum, may be effective. Other useful remedies are Nux Vomica, Ignatia Amara, Sanguinaria, Spigelia etc.

Consult a professional homeopath to find out the medicine that suits one’s temperament best. The reason being: the subtleties involved in the process of homeopathic treatment are often wide-ranging and composite.

The best part — homeopathy allows our immune system, to correct the nature of the disorder that affects us, naturally and holistically. The big advantage being homeopathic medicines are devoid of side-effects. They are also non-habit-forming, even when they are used… keeping in mind long-term therapeutic outcomes.
