be “taken more seriously” by the Government.

Gemma Hoefkens, 40, of Bewdley, says homeopathy helped her recover from inoperable brain tumours.

A petition signed by more than 25,000 people is being handed into the Houses of Parliament on February 24, calling for homeopathy to be used more by the NHS.

Ms Hoefkens, who runs a homeopathy practice in Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham, said: “The majority of patients with cancer and other chronic diseases suffer needlessly and many die at an early age. Having got a second chance at life, I feel duty bound, even passionate, to let others know that there are other choices.”

Ms Hoefkens is convinced homeopathy helped her beat cancer.

Ms Hoefkens set up her homeopathy business when she recovered from her illness and said she saw every day as “a blessing”.

Curing Amenorrhoea With Homeopathy

 

 Amenorrhea is absence of menses. Homoeopathic medicines for treatment of amenorrhea are as follows

Apocynum Cannabinum-      Most indicated remedy in primary as well as secondary amenorrhea. Primary amenorrhea with dropsical condition. With weakness and nervous excitement, there is no menstrual flow with tenderness of the abdomen and distension of the abdomen with distension of the limbs. Severe anemia, prolonged menorrhagia for six weeks. Blood is expelled in large clots or in fluid state with shreds of pieces of membranes and then amenorrhea sets in for months together. Aggravation after menorrhagia, exhaustion, continues work. Amelioration from rest, lying down, mental peace.

Lycopodium- Amenorrhea as a result of trauma from fear, fright, sadness which develops anorexia nervosa. Emaciation with diseases at central nervous system leads to amenorrhea. Amenorrhea for many months. Female is melancholic, weak memory confused thoughts and loss of self confidence. Aggravation from right side, right to left, warm application. Amelioration after mid night.

Sepia-      Indicated remedy in primary as well as secondary amenorrhea. Yellow, greenish leucorrhoea with much itching of genitals. Acute vagianits, sensation of great weakness in the small of back with the pains which extends into the back. Inflammatory condition with suppressed ovarian function. Aggravation from dampness, evening, cold. Amelioration from warmth, pressure, violent exercise.

Curing Menorrhagia With Homeopathy

Menorrhagia is excessive menstrual loss in amount or duration or both. Homoeopathic treatment for menorrhagia is as follow.

Sabina-
Inflammation of the ovaries or uterus especially after the abortion or premature labour causes menorrhagia afterwards. Copious hemorrhages associated with uterine colic. Flow is partly fluid and partly clotted in gushes and is offensive in nature.
Menses too early, too profuse, too protracted with labour like pains. Aggravation from least motion, warm application. Amelioration from cool open air.

Phosphorus- 
Inflammation of ovaries and of uterus causing profuse bright red blood with violent pain in the ovaries extending down the inner side of the thighs. Menses too early, copious, too long lasting with severe backache. In climacteric age, the menorrhagia is due to pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine polyps and dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Bleeding warts.
Great weakness, with blue rings around the eyes. Empty gone sensation in abdomen. Aggravation in evening, lying on left side, on painful side, either hot or cold. Amelioration from cold, rubbing.

Belladona- 
Congestion and inflammation of uterus and ovaries. Excessive menstrual flow with bruised feeling and great soreness. Copious flow of bright red blood mixed with clots. This hemorrhage is followed by great exhaustion.
Cutting pains from hip to hip during menses with redness, heat and burning everywhere. Bearing down pains. Aggravation from heat of sun, bending lying down. Amelioration from sitting.

Curing Dysmenorrhoea With Homeopathy

1. Aconite- Congestive dysmenorrhoea. Sudden, violent attack of symptoms. Labour like pressing type of pain in the uterus. Sudden onset of abdominal pain. Vomiting with great restlessness. During menses there is acute fever with great thirst and bitter taste in mouth. Severe headache, backache and with sudden fright or fear of death, the menstrual flow ceases. Aggravation at night, from warmth, lying on affected side. Amelioration from open air. 

  2. Belladona- Congestive dysmenorrhoea. Profuse menstrual bleeding, bright red in color and then uterus becomes sore. Abdomen during menses is swollen which is tense like a drum. Sudden appearance of congestive dysmenorrhoea with flushed face, throbbing headache. Menses increased, bright red, too early and too profuse with cutting pain through pelvis in horizontal direction, the pains are paroxysmal and the discharge is offensive. During dysmenorrhoea, there is painful bearing down sensation in the pelvis. Aggravation from touch, motion, night, lying down. Amelioration from rest, warm application, standing, on sitting erect.

3. Caulophyllum- Menses short, irregular, passive flow. Chorea, hysteria or epilepsy at the puberty. Patient is very much fearful, restless and very much excitable. Stiffness of small joints of fingers, toes, ankles, etc. Cutting and throbbing pains on flexing the fingers. Pain in various portions of the hypogastric region. Dysmenorrhoea is followed by acrid and exhausting leucorrhoea especially in hysterical women. Aggravations from exertion, while walking, open air. Amelioration from rest, warm application, lying down. 

4. Colocynth- Round small cystic tumors in the ovaries and broad ligaments. Spasmodic dysmenorrhoea. Agonizing pain in abdomen which is of shooting type, like lightening shocks, down the whole limb, left hip, left thigh, left knee and into the popliteal fossa. During dysmenorrhoea, the female becomes extremely irritable, impatient and becomes very much angry. Bearing down cramps. Burning pain in ovarian region relived by hard pressure. Menses are always suppressed by chagrin and colicky pains.

Brain Stroke And Homeopathy

The human brain, awesome in its intricacy and power, is still largely a mystery to modern science. With more than 10 million nerve cells it is the home of all that we know and feel, the generator of every physical action and response. Yet, unlike other cells in the body, brain cells once damaged are not good at repairing themselves. And they can be damaged quite easily – by infection, injury, or oxygen starvation. Should any part of the brain go without oxygenated blood for more than a few minutes the affected cells will pack up permanently – the body has suffered a Brain Stroke.

 The signs of a stroke vary a great deal, depending on which part of the brain has been damaged, but symptoms range from a sudden loss of speech or movement to dizziness, blurred vision, confusion, and unconsciousness. They may last only a few hours: this is called a Transient Ischemic Attack (T.I.A.). If the symptoms don’t disappear, this is a full-scale stroke.

 There are two different kinds of stroke.

The most common is an ischemic stroke, caused by a blood clot that blocks a blood vessel or artery in the brain.

The other, less common, is a hemorrhagic stroke, caused when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and spills blood into the surrounding tissue. There are various ways that the flow of blood to the brain can be slowed or stopped. Sometimes a Clot (Thrombosis) forms, blocking the flow of oxygenated blood. Or a blood clot (Embolism) which formed somewhere else in the body breaks free and ends up blocking an artery to the brain. In other cases, blood bursts through the wall of a weak artery into the brain (Haemorrhage), building into a clot.

 Luckily, our brain cells have so many connections between them that healthy cells can often take over the function of damaged cells so that we hardly know that anything has gone wrong. Half of stroke survivors return to full health, but much depends on how much damage has been done to the brain, as well as on the aftercare provided.

  Causes A cerebral infarction occurs as a result of a blocked artery. The arteries become blocked over the years and this produces slow blood flow to the brain. Cerebral haemorrhages usually occur as a result of weak arteries or aneurisms in the brain that rupture. High blood pressure is the cause of weak arteries in most cases.

  Risk Factors for Brain Stroke Some stroke risk factors are hereditary. Others are a function of natural processes. Still others result from a person’s lifestyle and diseases e.g. Diabetes, Hypertension, Obesity, Smoking, Alcoholism, Head Injury , Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA ) etc.

 Age — The chances of having a stroke approximately doubles for each decade of life after the age 55. While stroke is common among the elderly Heredity (family history) and race — Risk is greater if a parent, grandparent, sister or brother has had a stroke. African Americans have a much higher risk of death from a stroke because blacks have higher risks of high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. Sex (gender) — Brain Stroke is more common in men than in women. In most age groups, more men than women will have a stroke in a given year. However, more than half of total stroke deaths occur in women. At all ages, more women than men die of stroke. Use of birth control pills and pregnancy pose special stroke risks for women. Prior stroke, TIA or heart attack — The risk of stroke for someone who has already had one is many times that of a person who has not. Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) are “warning strokes” that produce stroke-like symptoms but no lasting damage. TIAs are strong predictors of stroke. A person who’s had one or more TIAs is almost 10 times more likely to have a stroke than someone of the same age and sex who hasn’t. Recognizing and treating TIAs can reduce the risk of a major stroke. If you’ve had a heart attack, you’re at higher risk of having a Brain Stroke, too.

  Symptoms Occurs when the blood supply to the brain is stopped. One may have Abrupt loss of Vision, Energy, Coordination, Sensation, Speech. Weaknesses or Paralysis down one side of the body, Loss of Balance. Sudden and Severe Headache. As brain must be continually supplied with blood through the arteries. If the blood supply stops for some reason, the result is very serious. Disruptions of blood flow to the brain are known as stroke. There are two types (i) Cerebral Infarction (ii) Cerebral Haemorrhage. A cerebral infarction occurs when an artery is blocked, halting the flow of blood to the brain. The second basic type of stroke is cerebral haemorrhage which occurs when there is bleeding into the brain. As blood flows into the brain, the build up of pressure results in agonising headache, sometimes followed by loss of consciousness. Depending on where the brain has been damaged and how badly it has been affected, the patient usually recovers but they may have a physical weakness as a result of the stroke. There can be Abrupt loss of Vision, Energy, Coordination, Sensation, Speech. Numbness, weakness, or paralysis of the face, arm, or leg, typically on one side of the body. Trouble seeing in one or both eyes, such as dimness, blurring, double vision, or loss of vision. Confusion, trouble understanding. Slurred or garbled speech. Trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination. Severe headache followed rapidly by Loss of Consciousness. Symptoms vary depending on whether the stroke is caused by a clot or bleeding. The location of the blood clot or bleeding and the extent of brain damage can also affect symptoms.

  Early detection f you are around it is imperative that you recognize stroke symptoms quickly in order to get the victim the help they need as soon as possible. Brain cells begin to die as soon as a stroke occurs. The faster you get to a doctor, the more likely the stroke sufferer will survive. FAST is an easy acronym to remember and will help you identify symptoms quickly.

  Step 1 F -(Face). Ask the person to smile for you. If one side of the face droops.

  Step 2 A -(Arms). If the person cannot raise both arms, or one arm flops downward, there may have been a stroke.

  Step3 S -(Speech). If the person cannot repeat a simple phrase, or their voice slurs or sounds strange.

  Step 4 T -(Time). If you see any of the signs listed above, it is an emergency and essential that you see a doctor immediately to avoid long-term effects.

  Preventable risk factors of stroke Prevent High blood pressure, High cholesterol, a Sedentary Lifestyle, Obesity, the abuse of stimulant drugs such as amphetamines, smoking, use of birth-control pills, and stress. Certain lifestyle related risk factors can be controlled to reduce the risk of Stroke. High blood pressure — High blood pressure is the most important controllable risk factor for Brain Stroke Cigarette smoking — In recent years, studies have shown cigarette smoking to be an important risk factor for Brain Stroke. The nicotine and carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke damage the cardiovascular system in many ways. Oral Contraceptives – If combined with cigarette smoking greatly increases the risk of Brain Stroke among women. Diabetes — Diabetes is an independent risk factor for stroke.   Effects of Brain Stroke Stroke can affect people in different ways. It depends on the type of stroke, the area of the brain affected and the extent of the brain injury. Brain injury from a stroke can affect the senses (such as eyesight, touch, awareness of body positioning), motor activity (movement of arms or legs), speech and the ability to understand speech. He gave cinchona to various malaria patients and the result was wonderful and a system called homeopathy originated. The word homoeo means similar,pathy means suffering.

The basic principle of homeopathy is 'similia similibus curantur' means like cures cure. Hahnemann prepared some other drugs using alcohol as a vehicle and started experimenting on different age groups and noted down the symptoms produced in them. Developement of homeopathy The principles of homoeopathy was written in book form and he named it organon of medicine. The attacks on homeopathy never ceases to amaze me. When labeling it as witchcraft, quackery and what not did not work, opponents of homeopathy have come up with new insidious ways of belittling homeopathy.

It seems new research in England has revealed that homeopathy medicine itself nothing but placebo. Arthritis patients benefit from homeopathy because the unique homeopathic consultation process is the one that helps the patient.

I have never seen bigger blatant lies in my life.

I would suggest to Dr. Sarah Brien to read up the most basic of homeopathic repertory and materia medica first. Then she could say whatever she wants to say.

I will talk about myself. If all homeopathic medicines are placebo, then why do I feel differently when I take Arsenic Album 30 (A homeopathy drug) and Natrum Mur 200 (another homeopathic drug)? If all drugs are placebo I should have felt similar effects on taking taking the two drugs.

On taking Arsenic Album why did I feel a burning sensation, restlessness and feeling that I was going to die? On taking Natrum Mur I felt despondent and felt a desire to consume more salt. Why?

Because the different effects of the two different drugs were laid down in materia medica written more than 150 years ago by a German chemist called Samuel Hahnemann, a Dutch German called Count von Boenninghausen and an American called Hering. These are called provings. The drug is given to healthy persons and the effect on the person is recorded carefully. This is the homeopathic materia medica.

I wonder if Dr. Sarah Brien even knows what is the Homeopathic materia medica.

My advice to those who publish all sort of gibberish about homeopathy is; study it well first. Then comment on it. It is difficult to learn but not impossible for a reasonably intelligent person. Read the materia medicas, repertories. Read the books by Hahnemann, Boeninghausen, Hering, John Clarke, Margaret Tyler, Sankaran, Kent, Boger and then dare to say anything about homeopathy.

Homeopathy is difficult to learn and practice but it gives marvellous results. The suffering humanity deserves to receive all the healing it can get. Please do not belittle homeopathy. Understand it first. It is not like other systems of medicine. It has its own laws. Respect them. That is what democracy is all about.

When I first saw Valerie, she was a 15-month-old toddler. In the first 4 months after her birth, Valerie screamed nine hours a day, even while nursing. She was red-faced, hot-tempered and screaming with the veins in her neck protruding. At 15 months, she still needed swaddling at night in order to sleep. She would get screaming fits and break out in hives if left with a sitter, or on occasion if her mother put her down for a few minutes. Although she wasn’t an adopted child, her parents considered abortion in the early months of the pregnancy. The mother said that it seemed like her baby never felt safe, even though she and her husband now really loved the child and spent hours each day holding her. Her story suggests the powerful effect of the parent’s thoughts on the unborn child.

Adopted children have experienced the condition of being unwanted before they were born; often abortion was a real consideration. In addition, they may have experienced the loss of the mutual and deeply satisfying mother-infant bond. This experience can affect them in more than one-way, for instance:

• They are grieving the loss of their birthmother. The adoption is normally a joyful event for the adoptive parents who long for a child. And here is a child who is unwanted by its natural parents. So, it seems a great blessing that the two of them have come together, the parents who want a child and the child who needs parents. But for the child, separation from the birthmother feels like the loss of her whole world. In the child’s reality, she is grieving that loss, and she has no idea who these strangers are, or why she’s in this new place.

• These children are emotionally vulnerable. Sometimes the vulnerability is easy to see, but often it’s hidden. Adopted children frequently hide depression, their confusion about identity, anger, and fear of further loss.

My own adopted son seemed sad and lost his first week in our home, but then seemed to be a normal, happy baby and toddler. I noticed that when he was sick, or under stress, he would react by shrugging his shoulders, as if to say nothing could get to him. But he seemed so happy overall that my momentary qualms about his emotional indifference faded into the background.

When he turned 12, practically overnight, he became surly and uncooperative and started having behavior problems in school. When his troubles escalated from school problems to legal problems, we realized that this was something more than normal teenage rebellion.

• Adoptive children are angry. The child is angry with the birthmother for abandoning her. But the birthmother is often an unknown, mysterious person, so the child redirects her anger at others, often at the adoptive mother. This anger can be seen in the temper tantrums of young children, or the acting out of adolescence. The child can also feel guilty about the anger and suppress it. This can lead to alternating cycles of good behavior punctuated by angry outbursts.

• Adopted children defend themselves against further loss by shutting out others, attempting to avoid the pain of yet another abandonment. Keeping others at arms length leads to a deeper depression. During this depression, the child may act out by stealing, lying, setting fires, fighting, using drugs, or running away. Another defense the child may use is to become the ‘perfect child’ so there will be no reason for abandonment by the adoptive parents. This child puts a lot of effort into understanding what others want from her and complying with the wishes of those around her. The adoption experience can have life-long effects on the person. Nancy Verrier, author of the groundbreaking book The Primal Wound says, “According to 1985 statistics used by Parenting Resources of Santa Ana, California, although adoptees comprised 2-3 percent of the population of the country, they represented 30-40 percent of individuals found in residential treatment centers, juvenile hall, and special schools.” Luc de Schepper, a San Diego homeopath, finds that his most difficult ADD cases are adopted children.

My personal experience reflects Verrier’s findings. When my son and his brother were teens, I was a member of Toughlove, a support group for parents of children with behavior problems. In our local group, we consistently found that 40% or more of our members were adoptive parents.

Remedies

Anacardium – Adoption is a split, both emotionally and genetically. The child is split from the original family and identity and graphed onto a new family and identity. The Anacardium child has a divided will, not sure if they are a devil or an angel. The Anacardium state can be caused by isolation and separation at birth, or after, leading to an extreme lack of confidence and a feeling of powerlessness. To compensate for this feeling, the person becomes aggressive and cruel. A keynote of the Anacardium state is a cold, hardhearted stare, which can be quite disconcerting to parents. The child’s behavior may appear very normal except in their drawings, which may have violent themes, and they may be attracted to playing with matches. The child’s dreams may also be violent, but they will rarely share their dreams with others.

Gallic acid – The Gallic acid state can be caused by the shock of a sudden separation from a primary caretaker. From that time onward, the child does everything possible to prevent being left alone. This child feels abandoned and reacts with manipulation and even violence in seeking protection from further abandonment. The child insists on being watched constantly and wakes up frequently at night to check that the parents are still nearby. This child won’t stay alone for even a minute and is rude and abusive to those around them, even to friends. The child can be extremely jealous and threatening to siblings. Gallic acid children are often hyperactive and cannot focus on their tasks, or schoolwork.

Hura - Hura treats the condition of feeling unwanted and abandoned by one’s nearest relatives, or friends. The child will feel that she doesn’t belong, doesn’t fit in. In addition, Hura children feel that they are disgusting as though they have leprosy and are, therefore, outcasts. Some Hura children will compensate for the feeling of being despised by showing contempt for others. The child will often have a skin disorder, such as eczema, or joint problems such as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Lac humanum – Lac humanum is a remedy made from human breast milk. The child who needs it will feel completely alone, as if nobody is there for them. This is the experience of many adopted children who never receive bonding from the birthmother and who were never breastfed. The child feels a sense of isolation, even a sense of not inhabiting her own body. Others easily take advantage of her because she tends to their needs before her own.

Magnesium carbonicum – J. T. Kent wrote in his Lectures on Homeopathic Materia Medica: “I once had in charge an orphanage, where we had sixty to one hundred babies on hand all the time. The puzzle of my life was to find remedies for the cases that were going into marasmus (wasting away). A large number of them were clandestine babies. It was sort of Sheltering Arms for these little ones. The whole year elapsed, and we were losing babies every week from this gradual decline, until I saw the image of these babies in Magnesia carbonicum and after that many of them were cured.” Because of Kent’s work, this is usually the first remedy thought of for adoptive children, or orphans.

Magnesium muriaticum – The Magnesium muriaticum child is a peacemaker. It’s a good remedy for children whose parents are arguing or divorcing, or whose family members are engaged in conflict. The Magnesium muriaticum child wants everyone to be happy and harmonious. An adopted child who needs Magnesium muriaticum will be frightened whenever her parents argue, fearing that they will break-up and she will be abandoned, just as her birthmother had abandoned her.

Natrum muriaticum – Like the Anacardium state, the Natrum muriaticum state can be caused by isolation and separation at birth. It is a well-known remedy for babies who have been taken from their mothers and placed in an incubator at birth. The Natrum muriaticum child is easily hurt and protects herself with emotional reserve. There is an inner grief due to being left alone without adequate nurturing. These children are so closed it’s hard to get to know them. They say little and reveal nothing about what is really going on in their lives. They are easily offended, and remember any insult for a long time – sometimes forever.

Pulsatilla – The Pulsatilla state can be caused by rejection of the child by the mother, or separation from the mother at an early age. The child feels unloved and unwanted. In her struggle to get enough love, the child will be clingy, weepy and manipulative. She has an insatiable desire for attention and reassurance, often asking, “Do you love me?”

Saccharum officianale – A remedy for those who did not receive enough love, or nurturing, in their early life. The child will usually have an extreme craving for sweets and may have a sugar imbalance problem such as hypoglycemia. She may also have extreme thirst. The child will compensate for lack of nurturing with two types of behaviors: firstly, she may constantly seek closeness with the parents, especially the mother, always wanting cuddles and wanting to sleep in the parent’s bed. And secondly, the child may have behavior problems such as kicking and hitting other children, sibling jealousy, defiant behavior, or hyperactivity. Some children will compensate for a lack of nurturing by refusing any form of affection. These children have the same desperate need for love, but will refuse contact with the parents.

Not every adopted child will need one of these remedies. We always recommend remedies based on the totality of the whole person, not just one factor such as adoption. Any troubled child, whether adopted or not, will benefit from professional homeopathic care. The homeopath may consider the wounds of adoption as a possible etiology, and will determine if any of these remedies fit the picture.
